Summary

"Malkani chronicles the lives of a gang of four young men. There's Hardjit, the violent ring leader and enforcer, determined his own stay true. There's Ravi, besotted with Bollywood actresses and hopelessly tactless, a sheep forever following the herd. There's Amit, whose brother Arun is struggling to win the approval of their devout Hindu mother for his Hindu bride-to-be. And then there's Jas, Londonstani's narrator, who tells us of his gang's journeys. He's desperate to win their approval. He's desperate also for Samira, a Muslim girl, which in this story is a crush that can only have bad consequences. Together, they cruise the streets of west London in Amit's souped-up car, making a little money with stolen cell phones, a scam that leads them into more dangerous terrain." "Funny, disturbing, and written in the exuberant language of its protagonists - a mix of slang, texting, Punjabi and bastardised gangsta rap - Londonstani is about tribalism, aggressive masculinity, integration, alienation, bling-bling economics, and "complicated family-related shit." In Malkani's hilarious depiction of contemporary multiculturalism, race is often no more than a proxy for masculinity."--BOOK JACKET.
